You are a wonder to my soul
We continue with our study which will be the last talk of the Ministers Conference.
Text: 2 Kings 13:14
I told you at the beginning of this conference that we won't have enough time to look at this verse. We discussed at first who Elisha was and yesterday we discussed that he fell sick and died.
Today we will be looking at the section that says;.And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him and wept over his face.
We can't even begin to discuss what he said. Oh my father my father, that statement alone will take at least one hour because there will be questions like;
1. Who is a father?
2. Who is your father
3. How many fathers have you
4. Do you know your duties as a son to a father
5. What the impact on your future and the fact that you have a particular father and so on and so forth.
6. The chariot of Israel and the husband thereof that one is highly loaded.
Yesterday we spent quite some time discussing the issue of death and many were not comfortable speaking about death.
According to Hebrews 2:14-15, you are not a free person as long as you are still afraid of death. you don't begin to live until you are no longer afraid of death. You are not a free person when you are still afraid of death. You are in bondage when you are afraid of death. The moment the devil discovers that you are no longer afraid of death, he becomes afraid of you. There is nobody to be feared more than someone who is ready to die.
The king came when he heard that Elisha was sick. Why did he come? The kings remembered all that Elisha did for him. 2 Kings 5:1-14. Maybe the king remembered what happened in 2 Kings 6:8-10, that Elisha delivered him from his enemies. 2 Kings 6:18-23,
The lesson from this is, is your ministry having an impact in your community? Are you relevant to where you are? Will your community miss you when you travel? If they don't miss you when you travel, they won't miss you when you die.
The reason why the king would have come to see Elisha when he died could have been because the king realized there are categories of power.
- Political powers; Ecclesiastes 8:4, Romans 13:1-4
- Material power; Proverbs 22:7, Ecclesiastes 7:12
- Spiritual power; Acts 1:8, there is a power that is genuine and counterfeit, Acts 8:9-23 and there is what is called comprehensive power, Mathew 28:18, Philippians 2:9-11.
Maybe the king knows that the spiritual controls the physical and he knows that God does as He pleases, Psalm 115:3, Proverbs 22:1. The spiritual also control the material, 1 Samuel 2:7, Deuteronomy 8:18. The king came but what is more important is that the king came and the sons of the prophets didn't show up and this refers to you the minister. How come they didn't show up? It is the value of what you know that you cherish, Mathew 7:6, 2 Kings 5:20-27, 2 Kings 4:8-17, 2 Kings 4:18-31. It is a pity that some people don't know how spiritual power could be.
The king came and wept because he appreciated what he is going to miss or lose. Many don't know the value of what they have until they have lost it, Luke 19:28-44. Many of us in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, we don't know the value of what we have now. Mathew 13:54-58, familiarity brings contempt. It is what you value that you are likely to get. What you consider precious is what God is likely to make available to you. God has been kind to make some certain things available to you, don't miss the opportunity. Some people when they miss something precious, they never get it back. Esau never got his birthright back, he cried but never got it. Opportunities sometimes are difficult to get back. 2 kings 2:19-22
In conclusion
What are you thirsty for? Mathew 2:1-12, Mark 5:25-34. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. What are you thirsty for? Is it money that can vanish anytime, is it position, is it title, or what use is the title if can't heal the sick. Acts 9:1-43, what do you want to get out of this year's convention? Nobody knows if we will live to see another Convention.
Elijah asked Elisha what do you want before I am taken away from you? He didn't think of it twice, he was thirsty and he said I want a double portion of your anointing. What do you want from this Convention? What you seek you will find.
