THE FATHER'S BLESSINGS
DEFINITION OF TERMS
A father is a male parent through which a child comes to life while a blessing is a command to all forces in Heaven and earth to support and favour a person.
CATEGORIES OF FATHERS
Biological, Spiritual & Academical / Mentor and our Heavenly Father.
WHO QUALIFIES FOR A FATHER'S BLESSING?
- A true son (Just as a bastard has no right to a father’s blessing so also do lovers of iniquity) - 2Timothy 2:19
Prayer: Father, please give me the grace to live a straightforward life and the grace to depart from evil and iniquity.
- A son with clean hands and pure heart - Psalm 24:1-4.
HOW TO PROVOKE A FATHER'S BLESSING
HONOUR AND RESPECT
Only a child that honours his father qualifies for a father's blessing. Ephesians 6:2-3 says Honour your father and your mother so that it will be well with thee and you may live long in the land of the living. Malachi 1:6 says “If I be your father, where is my honour”
1 Samuel 2:30 (When Eli’s sons dishonoured God, God reversed the blessings and said, Be it far from me, for them that honour me I will honour)
Prayer: Father, please give me the grace to honour you in all I do in the name of Jesus.
HOLINESS
Only a child that lives a holy life qualifies for a father's blessing. 1 Peter 1:16 says - Be ye Holy for I am holy. Hebrews 1:9 says “Thou hast loved righteousness and hated iniquity, therefore the Lord will anoint you with the oil of gladness above thy fellow”
Prayer: Father, please help me to live a holy life and flee from all appearances of evil, give me the grace to put my body under subjection in the name of Jesus.
OBEDIENCE
Only a child that is completely obedient qualifies for the father's blessing. Deuteronomy 28: says “If thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of thy Lord to observe and to do all his commandments, the Lord will set thee on high”
Prayer: Father, please help me to trust and obey you completely in all that I do.
LOVE
Only a child that loves his father will get his blessings. John 14: 21 says “He who loves me will be loved by my father”. Luke 10:25 says “Thou shalt love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind and thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself”. In John 3:16 God gave up his only begotten to die for our sins.
Prayer: Father, please help me to love you with all my heart, mind and soul and help me to sincerely show love to my neighbours
AVAILABILITY
Only a child available to meet his father's needs can receive his blessings. Most blessings from biological parents are usually provoked by a child’s availability. There is a saying that “When desirable is not available, then available becomes desirable”
This was what made Jacob snatch his father's blessing from Esau, he didn't come back on time from the bush.Whenever you are available to meet your aged parents' needs like caring for them, they usually rain down blessings upon you. What more do you expect from your heavenly father when you are busy doing His work.
In the same vein, you would agree with me that those who get the most blessings from their spiritual parents are those who are always available at every beck and call.
Prayer: Father, please give me the grace to be available for your use at all times so that I don't miss my blessings in the name of Jesus.
GENEROSITY
2 Corinthians 9:6 says “He who sows sparingly shall reap sparingly and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully”. Knowing how to give good gifts can provoke a father's blessing (At times God blesses us according to how we give to him. Check Solomon's story in 1 Kings 3: 10-13. Fathers usually pronounce blessings on children who know how to give good gifts.
Prayer: Father, please give me the grace to be sensitive to the needs of my fathers- biological and spiritual.
BEWARE OF GENERATIONAL PATTERNS
- Abraham (Ishmael / Isaac) – Isaac was the younger but he got the fattest blessing.
- Isaac(Esau/Jacob) - Jacob was the younger but he got the fattest blessing.
- Jacob(Reuben/Joseph) - Joseph was the younger but he got the fattest blessing.
- Joseph(Ephraim/Manasseh) - Ephraim was younger but he got the fattest blessing.
